Bac Nguyen is a radiographer specializing in MRI, with a professional career that began in 2006. Since then, he has developed extensive experience in all aspects of MRI, from basic protocols to advanced imaging techniques. He works as the Lead MRI Radiographer at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, where he plays a key role in clinical practice, training, and protocol development.
In addition to his hospital work, Bac is also a consultant application specialist for Bayer, where he contributes to the advancement of imaging applications and supports clinical users in optimizing their workflow.
Passionate about education and sharing knowledge, Bac also runs a YouTube channel and is active on other social media platforms. Through these channels, he aims to make MRI more accessible to professionals at all levels, offering insights into everything from foundational physics and sequence optimization to the latest innovations in the field.
Darren is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging with over 20years experience working within MRI across a range of settings. Most recently he was National Clinical Lead for an independent provider of diagnostics and therefore brings a wide range of experience in all aspects of clinical quality specific to imaging services. As well as supporting delivery of programmes within Medical Imaging, he also provides academic mentorship and supervision on the Doctorate in Clinical Research programme.
Dr. Frank G. Shellock, Ph.D. is an internationally recognized expert in MRI safety, with four decades of experience in clinical and laboratory research. He is the Director of MRI Safety and Adjunct Clinical Professor of Radiology and Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California.
As the founder of MRIsafety.com the World’s most widely used resource for MRI safety information, Dr. Shellock has made established his legacy in the field. He has authored more than 270 peer-reviewed publications and several best-selling textbooks focused on MRI safety, implants, and patient care.
He has served multiple times on the Subcommittee on MR Safety for the American College of Radiology (ACR), the MRI Safety Committees for the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and the International Society for Radiographers and Technologists (ISMRT). Dr. Shellock is an active member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International.
Dr. Shellock’s company, Shellock R&D Services, Inc., specializes in the assessment of MRI-related issues for medical products: MagneticResonanceSafetyTesting.com
Gareth is an HCPC registered Medical Physicist with 25 years’ experience working in the NHS providing supporting to Radiology departments. He has particular expertise in CT scanning, patient dosimetry and optimisation and helped in the establishment and quality assurance of the Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial (YLST). An experienced author, Gareth has 30 peer reviewed publications, with many of these focussing on optimisation. Gareth is now an Associate Professor of Diagnostic Radiography at University of Bradford where he teaches physics, technology and radiation safety aspects of the undergraduate Radiography degree and the postgraduate CT course and is currently undertaking his PhD focussed on CT optimisation.
Gareth has BSc (Hons) in Physics with Medical Applications, MSc in Medical Physics and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority.
This may help to support outcomes of CPD Now by College of Radiographers with the following supporting learning outcomes from the event:
[CoR 01] Practical skills
[CoR 02] Knowledge base
[CoR 03] Work safely
[CoR 09] Inter-professional/agency working or learning
[CoR 11] Workforce development or staff governance
[CoR 19] Evidence to support practice
CPD for radiographers and other allied health professions regulated by the HCPC is learning outcomes based, rather than points/credits/hours accumulating.
